If you fly to or from Cleveland regularly, you’ll be interested in Wednesday’s announcement from no-frills carrier Spirit Airlines.
On Jan. 15, 2015, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports, Spirit will begin phasing in eight new routes when it adds Cleveland as its 57th city. Most of the routes are now served by other airlines, so Spirit will increase competition at CLE.
The addition of Spirit comes seven months after the loss in February of United Airlines hub.
Service to the initial destinations – Orlando and Tampa, Fla. – will commence on Jan. 15. Service to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Las Vegas and Dallas will begin on Feb. 5. Expect Spirit to begin flying from CLE to Los Angeles and Myrtle Beach on April 16.
