Apartment Hotel Review: Cityden the Garden Amsterdam South

When my siblings and I took our parents to visit Amsterdam last month, we stayed at the Cityden The Garden Amsterdam South.

We needed a place for a party of 5. At the time of booking, most hotels near the city center were quite pricey and has a maximum occupancy of 2-3 people. Booking 2 rooms was not economical, so I looked at other options outside of the city.  This Cityden hotel apartment is located 35 minutes away from the Museum District.

Since public transportation seemed convenient, I booked the “Grand Apartment”.  It is the largest room type and can accommodate up to 6. It is a spacious apartment at 840 square feet, with 1 King Bed, 2 Twin Beds, 1 Double Sofa Bed.  The unit sits on the top floor of the building.

I booked early enough and got a deal (the room type later sold out during our dates).  The average base rate was about €250 each night. It does not include taxes, mandatory hotel fees, and extra guest fees, which brought the actual rate closer to €300 per night.

Common Areas

There is a “food market” station on the first floor of the hotel, if you need something light.

There is actually a supermarket within 10 minutes of walking distance from the hotel.  Beware: the market doesn’t accept any major credit cards.

There is a small lobby area right at the entrance, and a bar/restaurant space further in.

I like that there is a separator between the elevators and apartment hallway space.

Exterior Views:

The apartment hotel is of walking distance to a tram station (an easy stroll).  It was super convenient and we were able to take the tram directly to our museum stop.

There is a shopping complex that is of walking distance as well, but I will say this:  Since the apartment hotel is located outside of city center, the area is not bustling with activities. That said, if you are looking for a reasonably priced accommodation for your family and you don’t mind taking public transportation to get into city center, this is a nice, quiet, and spacious space to stay.

In Summary

We had a great stay at the Cityden the Garden South.  In fact, it was even more comfortable than the hotel we stayed in at another destination.  This was a great choice for our needs.

Knowing what I know now, I would absolutely book this apartment hotel again.
