Short Review with scores (out of 5, 5 being the best)

My Overall Score: 4.5/5
Common Areas: 4/5
Rooms: 4.5/5
Service: 5/5
Location: 5/5
Amenities: 4/5
Cleanliness: 5/5
Sleep Quality: 4/5

Background:

Booked the Junior Suite at the NH for my stay in Madrid. I chose it for its central location and great reviews.

Check-In:

The outside of the hotel is just beautiful, and it was actually designed by the same architect as the Prado Museum! The check-in area was nice, boutique-like.

Front Desk then asks the Question of the Day: Two Story Room or One?!

Man. Decisions Decisions. I mean two story sounds awesome am I right? But what isn’t awesome is falling off the stairs at night… Mum tells me I can choose and of course, the adventurous spirit inside me blurbs out.

How bout the 2 story room? 😀

Front Desk: Okay, and if you don’t like it let us know and we can switch you. (I need to start to remember front desk names better)

Okay the two story room was a bit too small/narrow and those stairs were steep! So as a team effort the fam decided to move to a one story room (which was probably the best decision).

The ONE STORY Room:

The room was aesthetically pleasing with nice attention to detail with the arched ceilings. The room was very quiet and we didn’t hear any room to room noise (so it was pretty easy to sleep) with the exception of the street noise occasionally as we were on the first floor. The bed was comfortable and my sofa bed was pretty good as well! If I could pick out a fault of the room, it would be the bathroom as it was just too small. It was clean and operational but there was just not enough space. I do understand that it must be due to the fact that it is a very old restored hotel. Expect a solid four and a half star hotel. There is a Nespresso machine in the room 😀

Amenities/Service:

The front desk went out of their way to help! The front desk even escorted us to tour the one story room to make sure it was way better than the two story room! And the daily greetings were warm and kind.
The fitness center in the hotel was small but nice. There is also water and an energy drink called Aquarius that is provided complimentary in the fitness center.

Location:

The location is magnificent to explore Madrid. We were here three days and got around by walking for the most part. It is only about 1.5 km to the Reina Sofia and Atocha Train Station, and 1 km to the Prado Museum. Everyone should know that taxis are VERY affordable in Madrid! I didn’t take the metro at all. Walk or taxi for me!

The Verdict:

The hotel’s excellent restoration has made it a gem to stay at on top of its amazing location. I would stay here again if I’m in Madrid. For about $200 USD a night in a Junior Suite I think it was worth the price!

Cheers,
