Earlier this week, American Express added a new benefit to the Business Plaitnum Card and the Business Gold card. American Express had annouced about this upcoming benefit earlier during the year, but the benefit is now live. In this post, I wrote about the mechanics of the benefit and how the credit works, but here’s a quick recap.
New $300 American Express Credit
In addition to all the other benefits, Business Gold and Business Platinum cardholders will now enjoy an annual ChatGPT credit of up to a maximum of $300 per calendar year.
However, the catch here is that this is a ChatGPT for Business credit, which requires that you purchases a minimum of two seats. When you select annual billing, you’ll effectively pay $20 per month. With the two user minimum, that comes out to $40 per month. That will get you at a total of $480 for the year. Since you only get a total of $300 in credits, you’ll end up paying $180 out of pocket for the year for two users.
The other option is to go for monthly billing. However, it will cost you $25 per month for each user. This will bring your price to $50 per month of $600 per year.
You can do a few things here:
- You’ll first need to enroll. Once you sign up, you can use it for six months, max out the $300 ($50 x 6) and then downgrade to a regular subscription.
- Split the cost with a friend who was going to sign up for the subscription anyway. Since you must purchase two seats, you can split the remaining $300 and that would come out to $150 annually out of pocket.
My Plan
Here’s what I’m planning to do. I have the Business Platinum Card and the Business Gold card. I’m planning to go for the monthly billing option.
- That would be $25/month per user, $50 per month in total.
- For the first six months, I’ll purchase the subscription with my Business Gold card.
- For the other six months, I’ll used my Business Platinum card to purchase the subscription, that would max out the remaining $300
Bear in mind that the credit is per calendar year. Let’s say you have the Business Gold or the Business Platinum card right now. You can sign up on July 1 and get six free months until the end of this year. Then, next year you’ll get six free months until the end of June. Depending on when your renewal date is, you can decide next steps whenever the time comes. Until then, you can effectively get free ChatGPT for Business for one full year with just one card!

Overall, if you’re already a user of ChatGPT, then this is a handy new benefit. While the two user minimum is a bummer, there are different tactics that you can use in order to make the most of the benefit without having to pay too much out of pocket.
