WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Marriott International opened its 4,000th hotel just a few miles from its corporate headquarters in the Maryland suburbs.

Adjacent to Washington’s convention center, the Marriott Marquis Washington D.C. officially opened today 87 years after the company first got its start in the same city with a nine-seat root beer stand.

The massive, $520 million hotel is now the largest hotel in the nation’s capitol with 1,175 rooms including 49 suites.

To give you an idea of the hotel’s size, the lobby sculpture shown above is 56 feet tall. I’ll update you once I’ve had time to tour the property. If you get there before me, please tell us about it in the comments section below.
