Malta International Airport features an airport lounge called La Valette Club. You can use it when flying business class out of the facility, or pay to enter like I did.
It is located straight after the Duty Free shopping area you go through immediately after security. Accessed by a lift, it is simple to find and is a pretty spacious affair.
La Valette Club Pricing
Booking the lounge costs €40.00, which is not particularly cheap, but also not stupidly expensive. I booked on their website a week or so prior to flying out.
It does say you can be in a maximum of three hours, and you actually can’t go through security screening in Malta too early. I tried about 13:15 for a 18:45 departure and the gates said no. Eventually I was through just after 15:00 and straight into the lounge.
Lounge Decor
This lounge is flooded with light as it overlooks the airport action. There are many groups of seats scatted about, and they are arranged so that if you don’t know people you can sit far enough away so that you’re not on top of each other.
A Terrace
Unusually, there is an outdoor terrace to this lounge as well, which you can see at the top of this article. There are plenty of seats and tables, complete with navy blue ashtrays for the smokers.
Food and Drink
There is hot and cold food, of course, as well as various wines from Malta and abroad. I decided to sample a bit of everything on the hot food since and found it all fine enough. A staff member saw me taking pictures and said I should have waited as he was just restocking it.
Overall Thoughts
La Valette Club in Malta is certainly worth the €40.00 if you don’t have access with a business class ticket. It’s just a nice place to chill out and you can vary your visit by wandering out to the terrace.
There are constantly staff clearing up plates and keeping the tables spotless, which I enjoyed. The hot food was also replenished regularly and everything kept tidy. I’d certainly visit here again.
