Background and Location
I recently had a one-night stay at the SpringHill Suites New York Midtown/Park Avenue. I found the location to be really convenient, and a nice part of the city. It’s located just a short 3 minute walk from Madison Square Park, and the Flatiron Building. Plus you have the 23rd and 28th Street Subway Stations nearby. Personally, one of my favorite parts of Manhattan.
SpringHill Suites New York Midtown/Park Avenue Takeoff Points
Date of Stay: September 2024
Room Type: Studio Double High Floor
Pros: Excellent location plus comfortable beds.
Cons: Breakfast could be improved upon.
Arrival & Check-In
Upon entering the hotel, there is the front desk and a small lobby seating area. In front of the reception, there is also a little sundries store for snacks and essentials.
At first, I booked a king room as I thought I would be traveling alone, then the day before arrival I had a work colleague join me.
So I had requested two double beds via chat the day before since I was sharing with a coworker. They weren’t able to confirm my request immediately, but they said they would notate it on the reservation. I had a feeling my odds were good as a day before arrival both the high floor and standard room types were available online.
We checked in around 5 PM and at first, the front desk associate said that they were sold out of two double bed room types but when I viewed the website, I still saw that both the high floor and standard two doubles showing as available. So, I asked the associate and she said that they have a manual system and it would take a little bit of time to see if there were rooms available, which was totally fine by me. After about 5 to 10 minutes thankfully she was able to find a two bedded room that was ready, so it seemed that their systems were a bit off.
Welcome Gifts
I was handed 2 welcome gifts that had two small water bottles, mints, and some milk chocolates. Also, as a Platinum Member, I could choose from 500 points or any two snacks from the sundries store/market, and I decided to get some snacks.
We were assigned a room on the ninth floor and the hotel had 12 total floors. Thankfully, the 2 elevators were quite large, as I know a lot of New York City hotels suffer from elevator overcrowding.
Room: Studio Double High Floor
As you entered the room, it opened into a wall, and then to the right was a sofa style chair and an open closet with hangers and a small area to put items. There was a cabinet that featured a microwave and below the cabinet was a Keurig machine with two coffee capsules, a green tea, and a hot cocoa mix. Underneath that was a mini fridge for personal use. There was also a little iron provided.
The room felt pretty new, as the hotel opened in 2022. It’s not a large room by any means and is definitely smaller than what one may expect from a SpringHill Suites. But it’s New York, and so I guess having a sofa-style chair is what they consider it to be “suite-like”?
The 2 double sized beds and pillows were much more comfortable than I had expected for a 3-star hotel like SpringHill Suites. So, I was pleasantly surprised and got a good night’s rest.
The bathroom had a sliding door to the room. It featured a sink, toilet, and walk-in shower. The bathroom was small but adequate for New York City standards. I thought the design was quite decent given the space constraints. Shampoo, Conditioner & Body Wash was provided by Alice + Co Botanicals in a Lavender & Eucalyptus scent.
There was a nightstand in between the two beds with a phone, pen, and notepad as well as USB charging, power outlets, and cables to connect to the phone device which can also assist with charging. Everything was pretty clean, though it seems the nightstand could use a polish.
As for the TV, there were more than 100 TV channels which was nice.
We have a view facing the front of the hotel and could see some New York City buildings in the distance.
Fitness Center
There was a small but adequate fitness center. I found it a bit annoying that they only had 5, 10, 30, and 40 lb dumbells. I wish there were some 15 and 20s. They also had some exercise balls and kettlebells, plus a yoga mat. In terms of machines, there were 2 treadmills and 2 ellipticals.
Laundry Room
A Laundry room is also located near the breakfast area, and it has a washer and dryer. It’s $2 to use the washer and 2.50 for the dryer.
Breakfast
Complimentary breakfast is served for all guests in the basement Monday – Friday from 6:30 AM- 9:00 AM and Saturday & Sunday from 7:00 AM- 9:30 AM. For a three-star hotel breakfast, I found it to be okay, but a little lacking to be honest.
For hot items, they had a ham & cheese croissant sandwich, biscuits & gravy, and a jalapeno quiche. No standard eggs or bacon here, but they did have hard boiled eggs. They then had plastic-wrapped bread, bagels, and muffins with toasters you could use. Also, there were prepackaged muffins. For fruits, there were whole oranges and bananas. And then there were a few different cereal types, as well as oatmeal.
They also had yogurts, milk, and juices (orange, cranberry, and apple). Hot tea and coffee were available as well.
The Verdict
Overall, I had a solid stay at the SpringHill Suites New York Midtown/Park Avenue. It’s in a great location and the comfortable bedding allowed me to get a great night’s sleep. Some room for improvement could be had for the breakfast.
