Highlights: Hyatt Regency Phoenix

Average hotel, but with nice resort-style pool and gym. Well located in downtown phoenix, close to several office buildings and other touristy attractions. Close proximity to airport – roughly 20 minutes by light rail.

Lobby & Check-in

To your left, past the concierge. Platinum status granted me late checkout of only 2pm, free waters ($5 each in the room) and free internet. Nothing special.

Room

Room was a bit bigger than normal or expected, with a winding mini-hallway before the actual room. Two complimentary Aquafina 1L bottles thanks to platinum status. Note that this Hyatt was a Pepsi property, with Pepsi vending machines.

Hotel Space / Ambiance

As I arrived late and left midday, I did not see too many people, but I expect this hotel to cater to business travelers here for work or meetings. The concierge was friendly and able to provide recommendations on local attractions.

Food & Drink

Platinum status at Hyatt does not entitle you to any benefits, but I did see at least one dining establishment on the lobby floor. The hotel was pretty large, and there was another eatery on across from the checkin.

Fitness

While there are signs, after reaching the courtyard area the sign stops. Gym is to the right of the pool and 3rd floor exit, but required me to call the operator for directions.

Miscellaneous

Groupon Pizza
Groupon Pizza

This was a roughly average experience, serving its purpose as a place to crash and utilize my Hyatt Free Night Award from Chase. Its location close to many nearby eateries is one of interest, so you can explore nearby and check out their offerings. I chose Zpizza on Groupon for some delicious pizza.

Cash rate was $287.67 after tax for this night, a category 3 hotel. At 15,000 Hyatt points, the CPP (cents per point) is 1.92, which isn’t bad. Thankfully, I used my free night award that was expiring next month – so that did not go to waste!

Note that they do not have any shuttle service to or from PHX airport, so make your arrangements accordingly. Public transportation in Phoenix was very prompt and efficient, costing $2 each way or $4 all day.
