Hotel Review: Hilton Hampton Inn & Suites Birmingham, Alabama

a room with a fireplace and a desk

Earlier this year, I did a status match with Hilton. I matched my IHG Platinum status, that I have from their credit card, and was able to get Hilton Diamond status. That status helped me upgrade to a suite at this Hampton Inn in Birmingham.

Quick Details
Hotel:
Hampton Inn & Suites Birmingham-Downtown-Tutwiler (A Hilton Hotel)
Location: Birmingham, Alabama
Arrived: Wednesday, July 13
Departed:
Thursday, July 14
Room Number:
402
Paid:
 $196.22

The Hampton Inn let me check in early and told me I had been upgraded. Awesome! I originally booked the one king bed nonsmoking room but when I talked to the front desk I was in for a surprise. They told me I was upgraded past the one king bed one bedroom suite. Alright! I ended up in the one king one bedroom suite with fireplace. Did I really need a fireplace in the middle of summer? No. But you better believe I took advantage of it.

The room was amazing. Unfortunately I was there only one night and had a lot of work to do, so I didn’t take advantage of it. But I appreciate anytime a hotel chain recognizes my status and upgrades me, even if it was a status match. The rest of the hotel is gorgeous and is probably the nicest Hampton Inn I have ever been in, and I have stayed in my fair share of Hampton Inn hotels.

The hotel is located right downtown in the middle of Birmingham. I had quick and easy access to the local parks and the jazz museum was pretty close. The Hampton Inn had a bar downstairs, but it looked pretty dead when I stopped in. Hampton also gives its guests free breakfast. The breakfast room is located on the 8th floor. The free WiFi in the hotel worked fast and never dropped or slowed down.

Bottom Line

In conclusion, if you want a cheap hotel, like the Hampton Inn brand, and want to be in the middle of Birmingham, this is the hotel for you. In addition, the breakfast food is good and the WiFi is reliable. The rooms are nice and if you have status, they may upgrade you!

Hotel Review: The Westin Atlanta Airport

Due to bad weather and last minute flight changes, I ended up stuck in Atlanta and needed a hotel at the airport, and something to be reasonably priced (I was staying for work). I had a choice between The Westin and a Sheraton for the same exact price. I picked The Westin, though I wonder if that really was the right choice.
