EL AL SUSPENDS ALL OPERATIONS – Live and Let’s Fly

After losing $140 million in Q1 2020 and with a small fraction of their staff and routes still operational, El Al is throwing in the towel, absent state aid. I doubt Israel will let their flag carrier go under completely, but it’s gonna take some work to come to an agreement to keep El Al flying.

This is an interesting idea, and one that would be not only welcome in the age of COVID-19, but probably in general. Now if only airlines had kept the screens on their narrow-body aircraft so that you could easily do this without worrying about an app…

UK ADDING 75 COUNTRIES YOU CAN TRAVEL WITHOUT QUARANTINE – God Save the Points

The UK’s approach to managing travel has been an interesting one. They (likely)waited too long to act initially, then imposed a flat 14-day quarantine, killing travel from everywhere. Now the plan is to green light a number of countries. It’s unlikely the U.S. will be on the “nice” list.

The biggest plus is that the UK government will be rolling back the current guidance of only essential travel. We may see a major uptick in travel to the UK when this rolls out.

But Scotland wants none of it. Then again, many Scots have wanted nothing to do with the British for quite a while now.
