Last Call: Fast-Track to American Airlines Status for Hyatt Elite Members

American Airlines is offering a status match and challenge opportunity for World of Hyatt elite members. This has been running for weeks now, but you have through tomorrow, December 28 to register for the match + challenge. Once registered, you’ll enjoy the status for four months while being given the opportunity to retain it if you meet the challenge requirements. If you have travel planned on American Airlines or other Oneworld carriers in early 2023, this could be a great opportunity to enjoy some additional perks.

World of Hyatt Elite – American AAdvantage Status Pass

Here are the details for the AAdvantage Instant Status Pass promotion:

  • Registration is required and must be completed by December 28, 2022. The promotion is only offered to select AAdvantage members.
  • World of Hyatt Explorists are being offered AAdvantage Platinum. Globalists are being offered AAdvantage Platinum Pro.
  • After registration, you’ll be able to enjoy your Instant Status Pass for four months. The status should show in your AAdvantage account within 24 hours of registration.
  • Earn the required loyalty points within the four months to keep your status for the next membership year.
    • AAdvantage Gold – Earn 10,000 Loyalty Points
    • AAdvantage Platinum – Earn 25,000 Loyalty Points
    • AAdvantage Platinum Pro – Earn 42,000 Loyalty Points
    • AAdvantage Executive Platinum – Earn 67,000 Loyalty Points
  • If you meet an Instant Status Pass challenge tier, you’ll have another four months to upgrade through meeting the next challenge.
  • All Loyalty Points accrued after registration are eligible to meet status challenge requirements, including those earned from credit card spend.

If you haven’t linked your AAdvantage and World of Hyatt accounts at this point, you’re out of luck. Linking was required by December 12. However, many members (such as myself) linked their accounts a while ago, meaning that all you need to do is register. I logged into my AAdvantage account at aa.com and immediately found the promotion.

Here’s how my challenge looks after registering on December 27:

Final Thoughts

American Airlines is clever with how they’ve structured this challenge. Rather than offer the benefits for a single qualifying period, you can keep qualifying over multiple four-month periods for higher and higher levels. It’s doubtful I qualify, unless I choose to divert a substantial amount of spending to my Citi/AAdvantage credit card. Worth it? Not sure. Probably not. But I have some time to consider.

    1. Best I can tell, it’s completely targeted.

Out of curiosity, do you already have AA status? I don’t hold it anymore, so I am wondering whether than plays into things.
