British Airways are planning to expand the BA CityFlyer service out of London City Airport from 2019. Four more Embraer E190 aircraft will join the fleet, adding almost 20% more capacity.

You can see why London City Airport is so handy in this post. It offers very easy access to central London, which is handy for business travellers and tourists alike.

Expand Equals More Routes

Rome will be served from London City from 11 November 2018, which is the first of the new routes to be announced. With this new route, there will be 33 destinations from London City to Europe.

Zurich will expand from four times daily to five times daily on week days. This will cater for strong business traffic between the two cities.

What Is BA CityFlyer?

CityFlyer is a wholly owned subsidiary of British Airways, which operates the London City flights. These flights continue to offer complementary catering in EuroTraveller, as opposed to all other BA services where you pay for food in economy class.

The Embraer 190 aircraft are excellent, with decent leg room in all seats. Uniquely, Club Europe passengers selecting 2C or 2D will find the best leg room in the fleet as you can see here.

Overall Thoughts

Further new routes are being announced in the future. While I enjoy flying into London City from other airports in Europe, I rarely depart from there. This is despite the fact the airport is small and you can arrive very close to flight time and still be on time.

As the airport is so small, there is no airline lounge available. Instead, I prefer to use London Heathrow or Gatwick when leaving the UK. That’s just me though, there is nothing wrong with London City at all.

What do you think of this expansion of BA CityFlyer? Have you flown with them before and what did you think? Thanks for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
