Last week I received an email from Citi detailing a hefty spending offer on my ThankYou Preferred card. After picking up the Citi ThankYou Premier last year, I downgraded the card to the Preferred when the annual fee posted. I am interested in keeping a ThankYou product, but not at $95 per year. Citi also targeted me for a PayPal offer recently. I’m now convinced they want me to keep using their cards. Things might be different had they made me a decent retention offer!

The card has been sock-drawered for a while, but Citi’s current offer may convince me to put some spending on it.

Citi 10x ThankYou Point Offer Details

The details of the spending offer are as follows:

Use your card to earn 10 ThankYou Points per $1 spent, up to 2,500 points, through 09/30/2019 on eligible purchases¹ like:

  • Shopping
  • Groceries
  • Gas
  • Travel and more!

Offer excludes dining and entertainment purchases earning double ThankYou Points.

You can earn a maximum of 2,500 ThankYou Points with this offer. This means you need to spend $250 on the card in eligible categories. The spending must post before September 30, 2019. I activated the offer by clicking through the email.

As the ThankYou Points earned from the Citi Preferred card aren’t transferable to travel partners, this is a bit less useful. Still, considering that the points are worth at least 0.8 cents each for gift cards, this is effectively an 8% return, which isn’t shabby.
