Amex’s Targeted 10,000 MR Offer for Extended Payment Option Program

I was going through a stash of mail earlier this week when I almost threw away a good offer from American Express. It looked like a piece of unsolicited junk mail until I saw the “10,000 Membership Rewards points” for enrolling in the “Extended Payment Option program”.  I was surprised since I don’t usually get targeted offers.

Extended Payment Option

By enrolling into the program, I’d get 10,000 Membership Rewards Points, which I valued to be worth a minimum of $100.   I tend to pay my bill in full.  Looking through the details, it appears that enrollment into the program has no impact on my payment preference.

How Long Does it Take for the Points to Post?

The points are not posted immediately.  According to the terms and conditions, it can take up to 6-8 weeks for the points to be credited.  (Update:  The points posted in about 4 days time)

How to Enroll if You Are Targeted

If you are targeted, you can sign up using the targeted link in the mailing and logging to your account.  Once you successfully enrolled, you’ll get this message:

enrolledIt’s a very simple process.  I know someone else who was also targeted for the same offer. It made me wonder if there is a push this quarter from Amex to get customers to enroll in the Extended Payment Option Program.

Before you throw away what you think might be a junk mail, take a look to see what it offers.  Who knows, you may just come across a targeted offer that you didn’t expect.
