It seems like this is the season for bizarre incidents. Be it phishing attacks, hacking incidents or fake bomb threats it’s all happening. One recent incident however brought a chuckle to many faces. A photo of a Southwest flight attendant went viral. Passengers took photos of a southwest flight attendant that they saw … wait for it … in the overhead bin!
Southwest Flight Attendant
Here’s the video of the flight attendant peeping out of the overhead bin. Not surprisingly, passengers on board started taking pictures and videos. The photos and videos went viral immediately. However, everyone was still wondering why she did it in the first place.
Southwest’s Explanation
Southwest’s statement waxed eloquent about how this is a part of their ‘fun’ culture. I’m not quite sure whether this is just corporate speak.
“Southwest Employees are known for demonstrating their sense of humor and unique personalities,” the airline said in a statement. “In this instance, one of our Flight Attendants attempted to have a brief moment of fun with Customers during boarding. Of course, this is not our normal procedure, and Southwest Crews always maintain Safety as their top priority.”
The passenger who posted the video, though, had a different take altogether on the incident.
The passenger who posted the video online told Fox News she was “perplexed” by the flight attendant’s behavior, saying she was in the overhead bin for about 10 minutes during boarding. But once she climbed out of overhead storage, she was “very nice” for the remainder of the flight, according to the passenger.
The Pundit’s Mantra
I’m not sure what just happened here. I’d also freak out if I were to open an overhead bin and see a flight attendant staring at me. While I love how Southwest trains their flight attendants and how cheerful they usually are, this probably stretches the fun aspect a bit too far. I’m sure Southwest’s management must’ve had a quiet stern word with her before putting out this statement.
