Virgin Atlantic are capitalising on a recent article in the Sunday Times in the UK which slated British Airways by offering money off flights. The Sunday Times article is called, ‘Anyone But British Airways’ and mentions, “… he flies ABBA – Anyone But BA.”

The article points out all the current woes at British Airways and goes on to mention Virgin Atlantic is rated higher than BA in the Skytrax ratings. Registering to read the article is free incidentally.

Advertising About It

The picture below is from Twitter and shows the original article about BA along with the original Virgin advertisement. Both airlines have a history of taking pot shots at each other and it is Virgin’s turn it seems.

Amusingly the people at Virgin have hopped on the ABBA part of the article and titled the ad “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme, Virgin Atlantic.” This is a reference to the Swedish pop group ABBA’s 1979 hit single “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” – a song Madonna heavily sampled for her single “Hung Up”.

Where’s My Virgin Atlantic Discount?

A new version of the advertisement came out today. For today and tomorrow (27 July and 28 July 2017), passengers get £50 off new bookings when quoting ABBA.

It does say that this is subject to availability and you do need to telephone to book. As this is advertised in the UK press it would be for bookings originating in the United Kingdom only.

Overall Thoughts

You can always rely on Virgin Atlantic to put an amusing spin on things. They also make the valid point that they are the highest ranked UK airline which shows just how far British Airways have fallen. It will be interesting to see how many people will make a booking in this little flash sale. Hopefully it is quite successful!
