Quick Details
Train:
Eurostar
From: London, England
To:
Paris, France
Departed:
Wednesday, May 11
Seat Number:
Coach 6, seats 11 and 12
Paid:
$75 dollars per ticket for a one way

When I was originally booking our European trip I was planning to use United miles to fly from Newark to London, London to Paris, then Paris to London. Using the stop over rule, it would have been the same 60,000 miles. The problem was that the London to Paris flight included a $75 tax per ticket. In addition to the tax would be all the hassles of dealing with an airport, the security and customs.

So after looking around for other options, we finally found the Eurostar train and decided to give it a shot.

The Station

We had to make our way through the London Underground to the St. Pancras station in London. It’s massive.

Eventually if you wander around enough and look for signs, you can see the international destination section. This is where you will go to head to your train, but also where you can print off your train tickets if you didn’t beforehand. You just need your confirmation number and the credit card you used to purchase the tickets.

The train itself is pretty nice and gives you a good amount of seat space. The seat also reclines but instead of leaning straight back, it slides down a bit and moves the bottom cushion forward so you don’t disturb the person behind you. This could be uncomfortable having your knees closer to the seat in front of you, but I didn’t have an issue with it (I am 6′ 2″ tall).

The seats were actually pretty comfortable, I was surprised. I don’t know if I would want to be in them any longer than the two hour trip but for that amount of time, they were perfect.

Bottom Line

If anyone is looking for a cheap way to get to Paris from London and doesn’t want to deal with the hassles of the airport, I would highly recommend Eurostar to them.

thanks for the info and pics jason. Quick two questions: 1) was there connectivity onboard? fast wi-fi? 2) two hours seems like enough time for some sort of service. snacks on cart, snack car or the choices in-seat delivered or in a drink/snack car? thanks.

Thanks for the questions Randy!
1. There was connectivity, but would go out frequently. Wasn’t exactly fast, but it was free and it let you check your email and have free reign on the internet.
2. There were snacks available for purchase at the center of the train. So no snacks on a cart or snack delivery system. They sold alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as sandwiches and different kinds of potato chips.
