I was scouring SPG.com today while doing some research for another blog post and stumbled upon the official SPG site for Four Points by Sheraton Havana, which opened on June 27th! A couple of months back I wrote about SPG’s plans to take over and re-brand three hotels in Cuba and this is the first they’ve opened for bookings.

I wanted to know how soon you could book a room at this property and it looks like it’s available right away!

The Four Points Havana is a Category 6 property and will set you back 20,000 Starpoints per night. At the advertised nightly rate of $334, you’re getting about 1.7 cents per Starpoint in value by redeeming with points, which isn’t a very good value.

Features

The hotel has 186 rooms (including 6 suites) and all of the typical amenities including WiFi, self-parking and valet services, pool/spa, and fitness center.

From the website:

The Four Points by Sheraton Havana is located in the Miramar residential district, which is part of the modern municipality of Playa. Admire beautiful panoramas of Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue) to the north, Monte Barreto Ecological Park to the south, and contemporary architecture all around. Also nearby are the renowned Marina Hemingway and many embassies, including the iconic Russian Embassy. Old Havana—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—is 12 kilometers from our hotel, and José Martí International Airport (HAV) is 18 kilometers away.

I’m not a huge fan of the carpeting in the King room, but I think both of these rooms look outdated and classic…in a good way!

I’m so scared that the floods of capitalism are going to wipe away Cuba’s old school charm so I’m glad SPG decided to keep the classic Cuban ambiance.

Dining

The Four Points Havana features six restaurants/snack bars:

  • Montebarreto Snack Bar – poolside, snacks, drinks
  • Lobby Bar Daiquiri – drinks, live music
  • Don Quijote Restaurant – Cuban cuisine
  • El Olivo Restaurant – buffet
  • Habana Coffee Shop – light meals, salads, pastas
  • 5th Avenue Cigar Bar – cigars, coffee, cocktails

A Couple of Notes

In bright red writing on the front page of the Four Points Havana website are multiple notices surrounding the restrictions on travel to Cuba from the United States.

Guests at the Four Points Havana are required to fill out and present this affidavit at check in.

Although your travel to Cuba must fall within one of 12 reasons, they are pretty loose and vague. For example, I would just check the “support for the Cuban people” or “journalistic activity” box.

Additionally, and this is important, all rooms are prepay only and are non-refundable for changes or cancellations!

Bottom Line

I’ve been following Starwood’s developments in Havana since they announced it months ago and I’m SO pumped to finally see the plan coming together! The value for Starpoint redemption at the Four Points Havana isn’t very good, but that’s to be expected.

I’m going to have this hotel on my list for when I eventually visit Cuba.

Be a part of history!
