United Airlines will debut a new safety video featuring Spider-Man from 1 June 2019. The airline is working in conjunction with Columbia Pictures to promote the forthcoming movie, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Considering June 2018 saw over 10 million people fly United on mainline flights, as a promotional tool, it seems to be a winner. There are also other tie-ins with the film as well.

Spider-Man Safety Video

While it’s not an all singing, all dancing safety video like some others, this video has some nice moments alluding to the movie. The whole presentation remains quite professional throughout.

I believe it’s the first time I’ve seen a no vaping sign and who knew smokeless tobacco was so popular as to warrant a mention? I’m sure there is a thesis in it somewhere for someone to chart the evolution of airline safety videos.

Other Spider-Man Tie-Ins

Passengers in Polaris business class are going to receive Spider-Man themed items too, which should be fun for the child in us all. Specifically there will be a limited edition amenity kit provided.

This will include Spider-Man branded products such as an eye mask, socks, tissues, ear plus, a toothbrush and a pen. The usual skin care products will also feature inside. Collectors should really enjoy getting one of these.

Overall Thoughts

Joining up with airlines to promote certain products is not new, however it is not particularly common either. Making a themed safety video is definitely something a little bit different and doing promotional amenity kits is relatively unheard of.

United have a nice site about the movie here, including the new video and some behind the scenes pictures. For what it’s worth, I think the whole thing is pretty cool.

Is this the beginning of something new? Will we be seeing some more promotional links for movies in future? What do you think of something like this? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.
