Background:
I booked the Hilton London Angel Islington to be my hotel in London for 4 days as it was the lowest priced Hilton in London. I thought it would be great as I would have breakfast and lounge access due to my Diamond Status from my Hilton AMEX Aspire Card.
Arriving at the Hilton London Angel Islington:
Oh my, the Uber from Heathrow took forever (1.5 hours) as our flight was delayed and arrived at rush hour, and the Hilton London Angel Islington is on the northern-east side of London (total opposite of Heathrow Airport!).
Thankfully, we were checked in quickly and I quickly got the keys to my room. I wasn’t upgraded which was fine because I liked the larger 2 Queen Bed room I booked.
The Room:
The room I booked was the “Two Double Guest Room” which features 2 Queen Sized Beds. It’s quite roomy for London standards and had a desk as well as large chairs plus a 2 person dining table! Plenty of space. The beds were comfortable and standard for a Hilton.
The room even had a small (tiny tiny) bottle of wine which was complimentary and certainly interesting! The bathroom was on the smaller side but still got the job done.
The Lounge + Breakfast:
The lounge was definitely the low point of the stay. It was in this tiny room, and although it served hors d’oeuvres which were nice, afterward they sometimes didn’t keep the lounge stocked with drinks, or even water! I had to ask the bar twice for just mineral water and they told me to take a bottle to the lounge for them LOL.
Thankfully, the lounge is now going under renovation from May 13th and will reopen September 15th 2019.
I opted to have my buffet breakfast in the main restaurant, Axis, and that was pretty solid on the bright side. Lots of selection and you could order omelettes! From May-July, the restaurant is being renovated and so they will only offer a limited breakfast service.
Location:
For me, the hotel location is either a hit or a miss. Depending on what you want to do in your time in London, the hotel can be convenient or quite far from certain attractions. Islington is a great area with lots of restaurants and nightlife, but also located on the north part of London.
Of course, the Angel tube station is just right across the street and can take you to most of London but for example, it will take more than 30 minutes just to get to Westminster where Big Ben is.
But, if you’re attending a convention at the Business Design Centre, it’s conveniently located right next door. 🙂
The Verdict:
Overall, not the worst Hilton but certainly not the best. I’m happy that the hotel is renovating the executive lounge because that has to be the worst executive lounge I’ve ever been to! If my travels bring me back to London I’ll consider staying here again if I want to be around the Islington area.
Happy travels,
Ty
