Background:
I booked Delta from Los Angeles to Dallas because the Skymiles dynamic pricing actually gave a decent redemption for me. 11,000 Skymiles +11.20 in tax for a $260 roundtrip flight in the Main Cabin (not Basic Economy)? Not bad at all!
FLIGHT DETAILS:
Delta Air Lines Flights 2658 and 2066
Los Angeles (LAX) to Dallas (DFW) and Dallas (DFW) to Los Angeles (LAX)
Seat: 16A- Window- Main Cabin
Aircraft: Airbus A319
Where’s Your Silver Medallion Upgrade?
Hahaha you’re funny. How bout 12th on the waitlist on my Wednesday night flight, and 9th on my Saturday afternoon flight.
And, Comfort Plus was packed at check-in (just 2 middle seats on both flights). Pass.
LAX Terminal 3 and how to avoid having to hang out there!
Okay I have to say T3 at LAX is a dump! Overcrowded, no seating and no AC?! The only thing saving it is the fact that it has a Shake Shack. Unfortunately, our flight departed from here… Delta’s other terminal T2 is much much better!
I’m super happy that I avoided having to stay in T3 for too long. I decided to clear security at the Tom Bradley International Terminal so that I could access the KAL Lounge + eat at PF Changs with Priority Pass. Then from Tom Bradley, I took a Delta Shuttle (post security) to T3! The whole process of waiting for the shuttle to getting to T3 only took about 15 minutes!
It wont be until 2023 that T2, T3 and TBIT are all connected by bridge post security.
LAX-DFW Delay:
For my LAX-DFW flight, our inbound plane from Austin was delayed 30 minutes, so our flight was delayed as well. I’m a bit shocked at their expected turnaround. The Austin flight was scheduled to arrive at 4:17pm if it was on time and my flight was supposed to leave at 5:05pm. No wonder we departed late…
Boarding commenced around 5:05pm, and the pilot said the flight would take 2 hours and 37 minutes from takeoff to touchdown. We finally took off at 6:05pm, exactly one hour late.
The return leg from DFW-LAX was on-time (yay!) and the total flight time in the air was 2 hours and 48 minutes.
Delta A319 Interior:
The Delta A319 is newly refreshed and each seat has seatback in flight entertainment. Take notes American and United please! The cabin is nice with bright lights and the AC units are all very nice and newly renovated.
Legroom was pretty good in the Main Cabin, better than one of my Delta 757’s from Hawaii.
Over a hundred movies were on board, so I managed to watch 1.5 movies on each flight for a total of 3 🙂 I love having seatback IFE! USB charging was available as well which was very handy to charge my phone.
Gogo WiFi worked once we pushed back, but prices were quite high and I was too occupied by my movies. 1 hour was $6 for browsing speed and for streaming speed 1 hour was $10. WiFi is free for messaging apps like iMessage and Facebook Messenger which is great.
About 45 minutes after takeoff, we had our beverage + snack service. You could choose from almonds, biscoff cookies or pretzels. I opted for the almonds which I really enjoyed!
I really wished they had a water service before landing because I got quite thirsty on the LAX-DFW flight. I guess they read my mind because on the DFW-LAX flight home they did!
Bags Delay: Delta’s 20 Minute Guarantee.
Bags took over 30 minutes from gate arrival to baggage claim on arrival to DFW, so I submitted a short claim online and got 2,500 Skymiles! It was credited immediately which was nice.
The Verdict:
Flying on a 3 hour hop from Los Angeles to Dallas on the Delta A319 is an absolute joy! Time flies by (literally) so quickly. Nice modern cabin with a great IFE system, what’s not to like!
