New airport plan unveiled for Mexico City

Tired of flying in and out of Mexico City? Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto yesterday announced a plan to build a $9.2 billion airport outside Mexico City near the existing one, quadrupling the capacity, media outlets including Bloomberg report.

The plan calls for six runways.

The existing airport, Benito Juarez International, handles “the most takeoffs and landings in Latin America and handled a record 31.5 million passengers in 2013,” Bloomberg tells us. More coverage: Wall Street Journal and Financial Times (subscriptions required).
