New airline service for Houston, Dublin and Stavanger, Norway

Four cases of new service hit the headlines in the last 24 hours from United Airlines, Scandinavian Air and Ireland’s ultra-low-cost Ryanair.

  • Scandinavian Airlines: Scandinavian Airlines began nonstop flights from Houston to Stavanger, Norway on Aug. 20, the Houston Business Journal reports. The two cities are major players in the oil and gas industry, the Journal says.
  • United Airlines: United launches nonstop service between Boise, Idaho, and Williston, N.D., and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, the Houston Business Journal reports. Houston is United’s largest hub. The service for both Boise and Williston is operated by SkyWest Airlines.
  • Ryanair: Business travelers who fly from Dublin to nine European cities will have greater choices from Ryanair, according to Dublin’s Independent newspaper.

“This is a great message today for business travelers,” Kenny Jacobs, the airline’s chief marketing officer told reporters in a video (see link above). “We’ve got the lowest fares, we’ve got more routes and we’ve got the most frequencies.”

The new service and frequencies of as much as three times a day (to Brussels Zaventem, for instance) will let some business travelers skip return to Dublin on the same day, eliminating hotel expenses, he said. Among the other new routes served: Basel, Lisbon, Cologne, Nice and Prague.

Ryannaire’s business product is going to launch a new business product at the end of August, he said. The Independent says that business travelers will be able to use flexible fares that include in the price the ability to change flight times and dates.
