As the year winds down, a few data points created a bit of a buzz in the travel blogosphere. The dreaded Amex shutdowns resurfaced, taking out a chunk of customers with it. That and more as we recap the stories from the last week.

Amex Shutdowns resurface as issuer cracks down again

The dreaded Amex shutdowns came roaring back as the issuer started shutting down accounts. Reddit users pointed out that the most recent Amex shutdowns are reportedly due to the PayPal Key trick that many were using to manufacture spend on their Amex cards. This crackdown isn’t surprising at all, given Amex’s recent posture on reacting to any behavior that’s deemed suspicious.

18 card offers of 100,000 points or more

While the Amex shutdowns may be disconcerting, we’re still seeing many elevated offers from card issuers. Currently, you can apply for one or more of the 18 offers that are having welcome bonuses of 100,000 points or more. If you plan to travel in early 2021, then this is a great time to accumulate some points as you plan your next trip.

Generate a boatload of Hilton points with these offers

The Hilton Honors program often stirs passionate conversations amongst miles and points aficionados. As a Hilton loyalist, I love the many opportunities that Hilton offers to quick rack up points. Moreover, one can easily attain elite status by simply holding on of their co-branded American Express credit card. If you plan to book a hotel stay soon, then now is a great time to generate Hilton points by capitalizing on the current limited time offers available.

As travel remains low, should you convert your points to cash?

Many would love to hit the road right after the vaccine rolls out and after travel destinations lift restrictions. However, some may still be skeptical and opt for a wait and watch approach. In such a case, should you hold on to your miles and points? Does it make sense to liquidate them in the current scenario?

150,000 points sign-up bonus still available on the Hilton Surpass Card

The Hilton Surpass card is one of my favorite co-branded hotel cards. It carries a reasonable annual fee of $95 and offers a slew of amazing benefits like complimentary Gold status and the ability to quickly earn a ton of Hilton points. Currently, you can earn a welcome bonus of 150,000 points with this limited time offer. Read this post to understand the card’s value proposition and how it stacks up against some of the other co-branded Hilton cards by American Express.
