  1. The Pundit’s Mantra

Currently, the Marriott Bonvoy American Express credit card is offering a 100,000 points bonus. Today is the final day for earning this bonus thru the limited time offer. As per the offer, you’ll earn a total of 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy points after you spend $5,000 in the first three months. The card has some valuable features and can be a great option if you’re looking to rack up some more Marriott Bonvoy points.

Earning Categories

Following are the spend bonus categories for this card:

  • You’ll earn 6x Marriott Bonvoy points per $1 you spend at a hotel in the Marriott portfolio
  • Also, you’ll earn 4x Marriott Bonvoy points per $1 you spend at U.S. restaurants, at U.S. gas stations, on wireless telephone services purchased directly from U.S. service providers and on U.S. purchases for shipping
  • You’ll earn 2x Marriott Bonvoy points per $1 you spend on all other purchases

Additional Benefits

In addition, you’ll earn the following benefits:

  • Every year that you renew your card, you’ll receive a free night certificate (redeemable up to a value of 35,000 Marriott Bonvoy points)
  • You’ll earn an additional free night at the same category leve if you spend $60,000 in a given calendar year
  • On approval, you’ll receive complimentary Silver elite status. If you spend $35,000 in a calendar year, you’ll earn Gold elite status
  • You’ll get 15 elite night credits each year for being a cardmember. This can be a great benefit if you’re just falling short of meeting your status threshold
  • You’ll get complimentary in room premium internet access at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels
  • 0% foreign transaction fees for purchases you make with this card

Why you should get this card

I’ve written previously about how I’m not a Marriott loyalist but primarily stay a lot with Hilton, followed by Hyatt. However, I still find Marriott points extremely valuable. There are two compelling reasons why you should get this card, even if you don’t plan on staying at Marriott hotels.

  • Marriott Night Hotel + Air packages: There are some excellent sweet spots to redeem Marriott points for a nights and flights package.
  • Airline Partners: My favorite use of Marriott points is by using them to transfer to airlines like American, Alaska and JAL Mileage Bank. When you transfer 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points to most major airlines, you’ll earn 20,000 miles + a 5,000 mile bonus. Here’s the full list of airlines that partner with Marriott Bonvoy.

The Pundit’s Mantra

Even if you don’t aspire to book a lot of stays with Marriott, Marriott Bonvoy points are still valuable as airline miles. Since Alaska Airlines miles are tough to acquire, I frequently transfer my Marriott Bonvoy points to Alaska Airlines when I need to make a redemption.
