Incoming Biden Administration to extend travel restrictions

travel restrictions

What a strange year it has been for travel. Instead of checking off items from our bucket list, most of us spent the last year tracking travel restrictions. With a new administration coming it, we could well see a change of policy. However, for now, it does seem like the incoming Biden administration will continue to extend travel restrictions put in place by the Trump administration.

Extended Travel Restrictions

AP reports that the incoming Biden administration will continue to extend the existing travel restrictions in place for Europe, U.K, Ireland and Brazil.

President-elect Joe Biden’s incoming White House press secretary says his administration does not intend to lift coronavirus travel restrictions for Europe, the U.K., Ireland and Brazil.

The message from Jen Psaki came Monday evening after the White House said President Donald Trump had lifted the restrictions for those countries, effective Jan. 26.

The Pundit’s Mantra

Firstly, this news comes as no surprise. Given the current conditions, no incoming administration would take the risk of lifting restrictions right away. Secondly, we could well see the administration slowly ease restrictions over the Summer and Fall as we start seeing the positive effects of a vaccine.

If you’re looking to track international travel restrictions, then you can refer to this post for the most recent updates.

Interesting. Are we sure that Biden is not a zenophobe as they charged Trump with being?
Democrats wanted all travel restrictions lifted last March and April. Now, they want to stop entry?
