The Discover It is one of the best cash back cards on the market. It’s an excellent choice for beginners, cash back lovers, and those who want a no annual fee card. Doctor of Credit (H/T) reported today that the Discover It is offering up to 3% extra cash back on all purchases. This is huge considering that the return on spend (especially non-bonus expenses) rivals some of the best transferrable points earning cards for a short time period.

Therefore, I decided to call Discover today to see if I was eligible for an offer.

What’s Going On?

Discover has a few different offers going around:

  • Get an extra 2% cashback bonus on all purchases in the next 12 months, up to $7,500 in purchases.
  • Get an extra 3% cashback bonus on all purchases in the next 6 months, up to $2,500 in purchases.

However, I called Discover and received the 3% offer but with a lower $1,500 maximum spend. I happily accepted knowing how lucrative the cash back can be. The elevated cash back begins the day after you accept the offer.

Plus, all purchases up to the maximum spend are included! That includes the 5% rotating categories. Therefore, you can receive up to 4% total cash back on non-bonus spend and up to 8% total cash back on rotating category spend. That’s awesome!

Remember that your mileage may vary. You might get a 3% offer or nothing at all. But taking a few minutes to ask is worth it.

Final Draw

I was thrilled about these offers after finding out about them today. My excitement only grew when I was extended one of these offers from Discover. The extra cash back was enough for my Discover It to now reside in the top slot in my wallet for six months.

You must call Discover to speak with a representative about the offer. Use the number on the back of your card. I was transferred to a supervisor within their Promotions Department who helped me out. Fortunately, Discover’s customer service is amazing, helpful, and US-based.

Discover’s current 5% categories are Target (in store and online), Amazon.com, and Walmart.com. But those categories change to Grocery Stores, CVS Pharmacy, and Walgreens on January 1, 2020. There is a $1,500 maximum spend limit on all 5% categories. This limit resets every quarter. Otherwise, non-bonus spend earns just 1% cash back without an offer.
