Delta Seattle Sky Club Bottom Line
On October 21st, Delta Airlines officially opened their newest Sky Club. The refreshed version of their popular lounge has been a huge success. As is imaginable, this one was no exception. When the airline started expanding in Seattle Airport, they had only one Sky Club there. The new Delta Seattle Sky Club is meant to compliment the already existing one. It ranks as one of their biggest lounges in their network. Also, it has some exclusive benefits that make it a game changer.
Delta Seattle Sky Club Improvements
The basics of the improvement are the refreshed look and feel to the lounge. Other Delta lounges already have the new style. For example, the Atlanta Concourse B Sky Club, their new flagship lounge, already has the new feel. Others where you can experience the new atmosphere is the JFK Sky Club and the Sky Club at Atlanta’s terminal F.
The Delta Seattle Sky Club comes with brand new amenities. As per the PRNewswire press release, some of these amenities are:
- Spa service provided by Asanda Spa Lounge. They will have chair massages, guided meditation by Deepak Chopra, as well as spa products and services by Comfort Zone and Stay Well.
- Chef Ethan Stowell will provide unique, regional food fare for the new Delta Seattle Sky Club.
- New and enhanced food available at their buffet.
- A 60-foot suspended sculpture created by Paul Vexler and a Pike Place-inspired pixelated mural by Craig Alan McMillan.
- Floor-to-Ceiling windows with View Dynamic Glass, which will reduce glare and will not allow the club to get too warm.
Game Changer?
Seattle was dominated for most of its history by Alaska Airlines. In recent years, Alaska is threatened by Delta Airlines’ expansion at the airport. The partnership is reduced to a cordial coexistence and forced smile in order to keep reciprocal benefits for travelers. The new Delta Seattle Sky Club hits Alaska hard, as it is a much better lounge than the one offered by the hometown airline. Also, the Delta’s domestic expansion has hit Alaska.
Landing Thoughts
What do I hope to happen from the opening of this lounge? I expect Alaska to counter by improving the offering at their Board Rooms. With the “up the ante” personality of Delta, I am not surprised that the Sky Club looks this way. As well, more airlines need to begin to improve their lounges. This lounge is the first one that can remotely compete with the American Express Centurion Lounges. I hope that American and Unite take the hint and start improving to match Delta.
With the new Delta Seattle Sky Club open, this may reduce overcrowding at the American Express Centurion Studio in Seattle. If Delta’s new food offering improves, there may be a new player in the premium lounge market here in the US.
