This is especially true for those who are just getting started with credit cards. However, Discover also offers a travel rewards credit card that earns miles as opposed to cash-back.
Additionally, the Discover it Miles card allows cardholders to convert their miles into cash. You can convert miles into cash back, a statement credit, or at checkout when you checkout using PayPal. This benefit is particularly useful for online shoppers.
The Platinum Card from American Express
The Platinum Card from American Express is best known for its luxe travel benefits. However, The Platinum Card also comes with a suite of other benefits. This includes an extended warranty on eligible purchases, up to $100 annual Saks Fifth Avenue statement credit, return protection, and purchase protection.

Should I Use Points for Department Store Gift Cards?
Most major credit card rewards programs allow cardholders to convert their points or miles into gift cards. For example, American Express allows cardholders to redeem Membership Rewards for gift cards at retailers like Home Depot, Best Buy, Sam’s Club, and Target. Nordstrom is also included in this robust lineup of retailers. However, redeeming points or miles for gift cards is rarely a good idea.
For example, if you were to redeem Membership Rewards points for a $100 Nordstrom gift card, you would need 11,765 points. This would value your Membership Rewards points at less than a cent per point.
As a point of comparison, Membership Rewards points are valued at around 2.41 cents per point. That being said, a $100 Nordstrom gift card is not a great use of almost 12,000 points.
This tends to be the case across all major credit cards. There are some exceptions. For example, Discover’s line of cash-back cards provided a 1:1 transfer ratio. At the same time, you will then be limiting the value of your cash-back when redeeming it for a store-specific gift card. Unless you can’t think of a better use of your points, we don’t recommend redeeming points or miles for gift cards.
