Review: British Airways Club Europe from Dublin to London City

a plane on the runway

London City Airport is always a delight to fly into. You are much closer to central London when compared to the alternatives and being such a small airport, you’re out and on the street in a very short time. I swapped my Club Europe flight to Heathrow to one into City for this very convenience.

Checking in online the night before meant that I could breeze straight through Fast-Track security in Dublin. As usual, it took moments and I headed for the DAA lounge in Terminal 1. Being Friday night, it was extremely busy, with the bar doing a roaring trade as people left for the weekend. After a glass of wine and a snack, I headed to the gate and waited for boarding to commence.

BA4471 – Dublin to London City (DUB-LCY)
26 May 2023
Embraer 190 – G-LCYP
Seat: Club Europe 1A
Departure: 20:05 Arrival: 21:35

We were running a little behind schedule, as Dublin Airport closes for 30 minute periods here and there to facilitate Air Traffic Controller breaks due to current staffing levels. Even so, soon enough I was sitting on board in 1A.

Time To Go!

Our flight was quite busy and all the seats were taken, including the one next to me. As usual, legroom was ample and once boarding was complete we headed off to the runway. Due to the closure there was a queue of planes waiting to go, so it took some time until it was our turn.

By now we were 45 minutes or so behind schedule, but nobody seemed to complain. Since it was coming into summer, it was a beautiful evening for flying and it was smooth sailing all the way.

Club Europe Dinner

British Airways have removed the piccolo sized bottles of Champagne from their routes out of Heathrow, but they are still around on the London City services. I asked for two when the crew asked what I wanted to drink, as it is a short service and they have a lot of people to serve.

As usual, the light salad for dinner was quite nice, with a decent starter and dessert. The guy next to me struck up conversation, so we chatted all the way through to landing. Trays were collected efficiently and we even got to have some more bubbles before we arrived. Once on stand at London City, we were out and away on the DLR with no waiting at all.

Overall Thoughts

It’s great to see the British Airways Club Europe service being as consistent as ever. With friendly and obliging cabin crew, decent three course meals and whatever you’d like to drink, the proposition is a good one.

While this flight was delayed, this was an airport issue rather than a BA issue so they get a pass for that. We did make up some time in the air, so we didn’t land too late in the grand scheme of things.

What do you think of London City Airport and the BA services from here? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.

I flew Club Europe for the first time recently Heatrow to Dublin and I was so impressed by the crew. On such a short flight they jumped into action and I couldn’t believe how much they squeezed into a short flight serving meals and all the drinks you could want with a smile.
