Last week, I wrote about how the Amex Platinum Card was about to drop another benefit. Amex dropped the Saks credit starting July 1. However, some cardholders are seeing a credit added to their account.

Amex Platinum Card: $50 ‘Goodwill’ Credit

Some Amex Platinum cardholders are seeing a ‘Goodwill Credit’ added to their accounts. These are posting directly to the Amex Platinum Card accounts without them having to make any purchase. This particular credit seems to be posting to some new cardholders’ accounts who had just paid the annual fee recently. This could just be an effort by American Express to help soften the blow as the $100 Saks credit is gone. American Express is yet to announce a replacement for the benefit.

At the moment, the American Express Platinum Card is offering a welcome bonus of up to 175,000 Membership Rewards points. This welcome bonus is variable in nature. Once you click on the link, you’ll see a welcome bonus based on a variety of factors determined by American Express, taking into account your credit score and your history with Amex.

The Pundit’s Mantra

I have carried the Charles Schwab version of the Amex Platinum Card in my wallet for over five years now. I’m not seeing anything that has posted to my account. As stated earlier, this could well just be a move to help cardholders who had just picked up the card recently when Amex was still advertising the Saks credit as a benefit on the card.

Nevertheless, this is a sensible and customer friendly move by American Express.

Are you seeing any goodwill credit post to your Amex Platinum Card account? Tell us in the comments section.
