Emirates is giving its airport lounges a major refresh. The airline has unveiled a next-generation signature lounge concept, which is now live in Munich and Frankfurt. The same design will roll out to Manchester in July, Mauritius in August and Istanbul in October. This is not just a cosmetic update. Emirates says it will invest more than AED 50 million, or about $13.6 million, into each next-generation lounge. That is a serious commitment to the ground experience at a time when premium travelers are paying more and expecting more from airlines.

Emirates Making Moves: Lounges Get A Refresh

The new lounge concept is designed to mirror Emirates’ latest cabin interiors and flagship Dubai lounges. Travelers can expect more than 50 design enhancements, including dedicated zones for work, dining, relaxing and socializing. The design includes herringbone floors, marble and gold accents, integrated lighting and Emirates’ backlit Ghaf Tree motif, a nod to UAE culture. This is smart branding. Emirates has always been good at making the journey feel consistent across the air and ground experience. If the cabin feels premium but the lounge feels dated, that breaks the illusion. This refresh tries to close that gap.

Better Workspaces And Dining

One of the more practical improvements is the focus on productivity. The lounges will offer more private work areas, communal spaces, wireless charging and universal power access at every seat. That matters because premium lounges are no longer just places to grab a drink before boarding. Many travelers use them as mobile offices. Dining also gets a clear upgrade.

Emirates is leaning into live cooking, regional specialties and a dedicated “Made In” area focused on local cuisine. There will be à la minute dishes, refreshed buffets, a bread oven for pizzas, flatbreads and manakeesh, plus a barista bar with a mixologist preparing cocktails, mocktails, speciality coffees and teas.

That sounds more ambitious than the standard lounge buffet. Of course, execution will matter. A beautiful lounge with average food quickly becomes just another expensive room at the airport.

Relaxation Gets More Attention

The new lounges also appear to focus heavily on rest. Emirates is adding upgraded shower suites, spa-inspired finishes, VOYA amenities, quiet zones with blankets, eye masks and earplugs, prayer rooms, breastfeeding areas and private meeting spaces.

The lounges will also operate as silent environments. Some airport lounges have become overcrowded, noisy and less relaxing than the terminal itself. If Emirates can maintain a quieter, more premium atmosphere, that alone will be a real improvement.

The Pundit’s Mantra

Airlines spend a lot of time marketing new seats, better cabins and premium service onboard. However, for high-value passengers, the experience starts well before boarding. A strong lounge can make a long-haul journey feel easier. A weak lounge can make even a premium ticket feel less premium.

Emirates investing more than $13 million per lounge shows that it still sees the ground experience as a competitive advantage. That is important as airlines compete aggressively for business class and first class travelers. If Emirates can roll this concept out globally without letting quality slip, this could strengthen its already strong premium proposition.

For frequent Emirates flyers, the airport experience may be about to get noticeably better.
