Details – California
Southwest has activated eight airports in California to begin nonstop or connecting service to at least two of the above mentioned islands fro. Note that SFO – San Francisco International – is not on the list, most likely due to not having sufficient gates or cost. You can view Low Fare Calendars for any of the routes, easily finding the cheapest options – especially if your dates are flexible! Try it out here! I saw some $49 deals but they were gone quickly, jumping to $79, $99, and $129. I did see some midweek and Sunday $99 routes, which are a steal for a flight that’s nearly 6 hours long – as long as flying to the East Coast!
- Oakland (OAK)
- San Jose (SJC)
- Los Angeles (LAX)
- Ontario (ONT)
- Orange County (SNA)
- Long Beach (LGB)
- Burbank (BUR)
- San Diego (SAN)
Details – Rest of the Country
For the remainder of the country, you can check out direct and non-direct flights to Hawaii via Southwest’s cool Interactive Route Search Tool. Simply click your home base or type in the airport details and you can see connecting/nonstop flights. Very easy to use. Pair it with your Southwest Companion Pass to save even more on your flights!
Conclusion
It’s no wonder that Hawaii’s premier airline, Hawaiian Airlines, took a 11% nosedive in stock price today, wiping out over $150 million from its market cap with over 3x the normal trading volume. I’m super excited about this development, especially stacking it with my Southwest Companion Pass, but I already booked travel through H1 and may not have enough time to take off – bummer! I was also in Hawaii last August for a wedding, enjoying a wonderful time at Hilton Hawaiian Village and the Sheraton Princess Waikiki. I highly encourage you check out the deals sooner rather than later. Regardless, this increase in competition should benefit customers in the effect of lower fare pricing, so I am excited for the next time I get to go!
