American Express & Uber Promotion!
Courtesy of r/churning and u/Porkylicious, Uber is holding a promotion through the end of the year (12/31/16) for American Express Cardholders.
The code AMEXAIRPORT works in the app for two trips up to $65 each, originating from one of the airports listed below. If the cost is more than $65, then it will be charged to the corresponding American Express card. Since my mainstay Starwood AMEX and its Business counterpart will work for this promotion, this will offset more than the value of an annual fee!

Promotion Details & How to Maximize Value
The FAQ covers many of the possible questions, with the promotion working for any Uber (uberX, pool, XL, Black, etc.) However, one thing to note is that this promotion only works for trips originating from one of the listed airports. While EWR is the closest for me, Uber recently instituted a policy to charge New York City rates for trips originating from New Jersey, even heading west, away from NYC! Now, I can have two free rides with this promotion.
Value
For any sort of Uber promotion, you want to maximize the value – thus using it to its fullest value would be optimal. Try not to use it on short trips, but rather inputting the code right before a longer trip would maximize your savings. Finally, these airports heavily skew towards the East Coast, with just McCarran in Las Vegas and SeaTac in Seattle on the West, and Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway in the Midwest.
Most likely, this promotion will be most beneficial for New Yorkers coming back from LaGuardia or JFK, since those trips tend to be longer (as those airports are farther away from the city). All of the hotels have decent public or private transportation options towards the surrounding area. However, free Uber rides take precedence over public transportation any day! Take advantage of it, and use AMEXAIRPORT to make that holiday travel a bit easier.
