AAdvantage Bonus Miles from Barclaycard (Targeted)

I received a flyer in today’s mail from Barclaycard. It seems they’re back with another AAdvantage Aviator bonus miles promotion for their American Airlines card products. My offer was for 30 percent more miles between July 1 and September 30, 2016, with a cap of 5,000 bonus miles. There are reports online of 50 percent offers, so you could be receiving a more lucrative offer.

Even if you did not receive a flyer, log into your Barclaycard account and look at the banners on the right side of the screen just below your account summary. I logged in to find this:

aadvantage, aadvantage aviator card bonus, aadvantage aviator bonus miles

Click on this took me to a registration page where I found my 30 percent more miles offer.

I checked the box, clicked submit, and now I’m all set for 30 percent more miles.

  1. I’m on the 50% list. This card looks to be a nice ride for a while yet. There’s no denying either Barclay’s foreign banking ways nor its generosity, at least with this card. I signed up for three of the Aviator Reds, and now I’m down to one upgraded-free Silver. Every time the last bonus runs out, I call in for the next and in the past year they always offered something. Since AA miles work out to be worth about 2 cents each for me, I’m closing in on $4,000 worth of AA flights from Barclay over the life of the card(s), plus 10K EQMs and a $100 AA credit. My only regret is closing the other Reds, but at the time they offered no annual fee waiver and my crystal ball wasn’t getting a good signal. Spoiler Alert: Get written confirmation for every thing from Barclay when you are dealing with these private bonuses above their normal payouts; I nearly always have trouble of some kind in this regard. Written verification of the bonus and its terms via SM is your friend.

  2. Gosh, this card has been pretty good for us. The MarAprMay bonuses (5K for one, 15K for the other for only $500 spend per month x 3 mos) have now posted to Barclays and will be swept to AA next statement. And we both got the 30% bonus (to 5K/ea) offer, which I just registered us for. I don’t recall anything like this with Cit.

    1. Log into the barclaycardus.com website. From your account services home page, select “Services” from the toggle down menu up top, then “Manage PIN.”

Since you haven’t set your PIN, you may also see a banner message about it somewhere on the account services homepage too. In any event, when you do set it, head to Target or somewhere to make a purchase, and your PIN will be pushed to the card. In almost all cases, you’ll still be signing for your purchase, but at train kiosks, parking pay booths, etc, that are unattended, it’ll ask for a PIN. Worked great for me in Paris last fall. Although many, but not all, train kiosks will now reportedly work with a Chip & Sig card. Paris Metro worked for me with my Chase Sapphire Preferred. But the RER train did not at Versailles. YMMV.

  3. ah, the Chip and Pin is really useful. i blew some friends away in France by successfully using the card in a Paris Metro machine – they thought those machines simply rejected all American credit cards. so agreed on that point!

  4. pretty bummed about my Aviator Red. if not for these bonus offers (and this one’s not that compelling anyhow – I got the 30% offer) I’d call this card a dud. it doesn’t offer anything that the Citi card doesn’t offer (which I also have), and I find Barclay’s customer service on phone and website to be pretty lousy. i want to badly to get rid of it, but I hold onto it purely for the ability to upgrade to Aviator Silver and earn some EQM’s if I was ever in a bind.

    1. I don’t disagree at all, Mike. I kept it because…well…you can’t get another one, and I like having a Chip & PIN capable card for my occasional international trip.
