Waldorf Astoria in Naples, Fla., drops brand; becomes independent property

The Waldorf Astoria hotel in Naples, Fla., is no longer part of Hilton Worldwide’s luxury chain. It’s now an independent property called the Naples Grande Beach Resort, the hotel’s owner announced today.

The owner, Northwood Hospitality, is investing $18 million into renovating the hotel. Expect its 474 rooms, beach and common areas to get an update. The resort will stay open during the renovation, which should be completed in January, the company says in a press release.

Don’t be surprised if you wind up at the hotel for some sort of conference. Northwood intends to court meetings with its 83,000 square feet of event space, three heated outdoor pools including one with a 100-foot water slide, five restaurants and other amenities. It’s located near a Rees Jones-designed private golf course.
