U.S citizens & residents can still travel to these countries

Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen many popular travel destinations plan to reopen their borders, only to scale back those plans later. Hawaii was the latest to extend their travel restrictions. Similarly, Canada also extended their plans to keep the U.S-Canada closed for a lot longer than planned earlier. At the moment, many are wondering whether there’s any international travel available. While domestic road trips may be on the upswing, a few destinations are still welcoming tourists from the U.S, albeit with a few restrictions.

Travel Restrictions on tourists from the U.S

As countries have placed more travel restrictions, we’ve seen the U.S passport lose its value in terms of ease of access to many countries around the world. However, U.S tourists can still travel to a few countries. CNN Travel has put out a handy map which explains where U.S tourists are still welcome.

In many cases, we’re seeing destinations impose guardrails as they welcome visitors back. These include things like testing, isolation periods and additional fees. For example, Cambodia is charging a hefty $3,000 as a Covid-19 deposit. Also, many destinations in the list also require a mandatory 14 day quarantine on arrival.

The following places are welcoming U.S tourists with few or no restrictions:

  • Albania
  • Dominican Republic
  • Kosovo
  • Maldives
  • Mexico
  • North Macedonia
  • Serbia
  • Tunisia
  • Turkey

The following place are still welcoming U.S tourists, but with significant requirement:

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Aruba
  • Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • Belize
  • Bermuda
  • Cambodia
  • Croatia
  • Ecuador
  • Egypt
  • French Polynesia
  • Jamaica
  • St. Barts
  • St. Lucia
  • St. Maarten
  • St. Vincent and Grenadines
  • Turks and Caicos
  • Ukraine
  • United Arab Emirates
  • United Kingdom

The Pundit’s Mantra

In one of my previous posts, I’ve argued why I intend to sit out and wait until travel returns to normal. I value the experience of travel as much as the mere act of travel. I’d rather wait longer and then have a full fledged experience instead of a diluted experience in the near term. However, if you intend to travel internationally soon, then this resource could be handy as you plan your travel. Similarly, you can refer to this post for a country by country list of travel restrictions.

Please note that these restrictions are extremely fluid in nature. We’ve seen many countries change restrictions in response to worsening public health statistics.
