Background
In this post, I’ll review the Deluxe Balcony Cabin aboard the Sun Princess. With its inaugural sailing in February 2024, the Sun Princess is the first and lead vessel of Princess Cruises’ Sphere Class. It is the largest ship ever commissioned for Princess. In terms of the stateroom, I was pleasantly surprised, and it exceeded my expectations. It’s probably the nicest/most practical cabin I’ve stayed in.
My first cruise was on the former Star Princess back in 2016, and I’ve started to enjoy going on cruises more recently. I’ve been on Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady (which I loved), Holland America’s Koningsdam, and Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas.
The Sun Princess Deluxe Balcony Cabin
We had two cabins, with the first being mine and the one directly next door being my parents. A nice touch was that we could connect the balconies by having our stateroom attendant unlock the partition outside, thus connecting the two rooms. A nice touch! Our rooms were located on Deck 12, close to the midship elevators (slightly aft).
Your medallion is your room key, and you don’t even need to tap it on your door (unless it’s a little faulty), but it senses your arrival if you have your medallion on you, your door will unlock automatically. I’m still not sure if I quite like that, and also, they have a screen at your stateroom door listing your first name and last initial. Personally, I’m not the biggest fan of displaying your name on your cabin.
The Deluxe Balcony Cabin is approximately 235 sq. ft., including the balcony. As you enter the cabin, to the right is a closet featuring the life jackets, and then there are some cabinets, with one housing the safe as well as another shelf for storage. There are two shelves below that, as well as three drawers, plus the closet. The closet has many hangers to hang all of your clothes. There are also four shelves for storage.

Bathroom
Across the closet is the bathroom. The bathroom is relatively spacious for a cruise ship and features some shelves above the counter space, a deep basin for the sink, and the standup shower has both a wand rainfall shower.

I enjoyed the Beekman Toiletries, and in the shower, there was body wash, conditioner, and shampoo. Next to the sink, there was hand soap and body lotion. This is a big step up from what I had on Royal Caribbean, where they only offered all-in-one- shampoo, conditioner, and a shower gel.
Bed/Living Space
Entering the room, we have a large TV as well as a bed. The bed is king-sized and features two nightstands, one on each side. Each nightstand has light controls, power outlets, USB, as well as a reading light. The beds can also be requested to be separated into 2 Twins.

The TV features complimentary movies and limited TV options. For the bedding, it was quite luxurious for a mainstream cruise liner, and I found the pillows to be quite comfortable as well. It definitely surpasses some 4-star hotel bedding!
Next was the living room, which I thought was well-designed. There is a large sofa that can comfortably fit three people, as well as a desk area that features two drawers, a desk chair, and a movable side table. Then, towards the window, there was a mini bar area with a fridge that is for personal use, a drawer that features a Drybar hairdryer, which was a nice touch, as well as some glasses for drinking. I really liked this area as it also has plenty of power outlets as well as USB-C and A. There’s also a universal power adapter over here, and this is where the phone is located as well.

Some cabins have the living room and bed space reversed, as was how my parent’s cabin next door was.
A nice feature of the room was the night light function underneath the bedside tables. It was motion censored, and It would automatically turn in the nice room. Plus, the bathroom had a good night light setting as well. No having to figure out which light to leave on at night!
Balcony
The balcony was quite spacious and featured two chairs plus a table. They all seemed pretty new, as the ship was less than a year old. It was convenient to be able to open up the partition to make the rooms connect, which could be helpful for groups traveling together or for families.

The Verdict
Overall, the Sun Princess Deluxe Balcony Cabin was nice, new and well-designed. It was a great cabin to relax in for the journey, and it exceeded my expectations.
