Red Carpet Club Changes and the New United

As blogged by lucky, United’s Red Carpet Clubs begin offering free house booze and wi-fi today.  Good news, and not unexpected with American implementing a similar free alcohol policy effective today as well.

Of course, today marks the official merger of Continental and United, which are both now subsidiaries of United Continental Holdings.  It’ll be a while before these 2 airlines really become 1, so for now….things are pretty much as they were yesterday.  There will be a lot more to come.  I’m anxious to see if the new company maintains Economy Plus.  I’m hopeful that it will remain.  Jeff Smisek, President and CEO of the new company had a few things to say about day 1 of the merger here.  Most notable was a timeline (later this month) for reciprocal upgrades and preferred seat access for each airline’s elite frequent fliers.

I’m a little envious of the people that get to be involved in making this happen.  It’s hard work but exciting and kind of fun at the same time.  I’ll be watching with interest as the new United evolves.
