Hilton has opened the Hilton Chania Old Town Resort & Spa, bringing its flagship Hilton Hotels & Resorts brand to one of Crete’s most attractive coastal cities. The property is positioned as a year-round waterfront urban resort, located just a five-minute walk from Chania’s Old Town and about 20 minutes from the airport. That location is the headline. Chania is already one of the most charming destinations in Greece, with its Venetian harbor, old streets, coastal scenery and strong food culture. Adding a polished Hilton resort within walking distance of the Old Town gives travelers another serious option in Crete.

What’s Unique About This Hilton Property

The resort has 85 rooms and suites, and Hilton says every room features a private balcony with a heated pool. Some rooms also offer in-room saunas and sweeping views of the Aegean Sea. A private pool is no longer rare in Greece, but having that feature across every room at an urban resort near Chania’s Old Town is notable. It makes the property feel more resort-like without forcing guests to stay far away from the city.

The hotel also features a heated rooftop infinity pool, a botanical garden with sunset views, a fitness center and a L’Occitane en Provence Spa with treatment rooms, hammam, saunas, steam baths and relaxation areas.

In other words, Hilton is clearly trying to position this as more than just a city hotel.

Dining Looks Like A Major Focus

The property is also leaning heavily into food and beverage. Poème de la Canée will serve as the hotel’s all-day dining venue, with Mediterranean flavors, cocktails and live music. Céleste will offer rooftop dining and drinks by the heated infinity pool. There is also a Fauchon Café Pâtisserie, marking the French brand’s debut in Greece, along with The C Bar for aged spirits and cigars. Little Galaxy, the rooftop botanical garden, adds another event and relaxation space.

That is a lot of dining infrastructure for an 85-room hotel. If executed well, the hotel could become a local dining and social venue, not just a place for guests to sleep.

Why This Matters For Hilton Honors Members

For Hilton Honors members, this is a useful addition. Greece is an incredibly popular leisure market, but compelling points-friendly luxury options can be uneven depending on the island and season. Crete, in particular, has the advantage of being large, culturally rich and more than just a beach destination.

This hotel also operates year-round, which is important. Many Greek island resorts are heavily seasonal, limiting options outside peak summer months. The big question, as always with Hilton, will be award pricing.

If cash rates climb during summer and award pricing remains reasonable, this could be a very interesting Hilton Honors redemption. If dynamic pricing gets aggressive, then it may be better suited for paid stays, promotions or free night certificates.

For a few dates in summer that we sampled, the property is priced at around $450 per night. When standard rooms are available, the hotel charges 95,000 Hilton Honors points per night.

At the moment, American Express is offering limited time welcome bonuses on all of their co-branded credit cards with Hilton Honors. If this property interests you, then getting a co-branded Hilton credit card will help you shave off a substantial chunk of the cost incurred for a stay at this property.

Card Name Welcome Bonus + Application Link Minimum Spend Required in 6 months
Hilton Honors Card 100,000 Points + $100 $2,000

The Pundit’s Mantra

Hilton Chania Old Town Resort & Spa has the right ingredients: a strong location, small-room-count feel, private pools, sea views, serious wellness facilities and multiple dining venues. Most importantly, it gives Hilton Honors members a new way to access Chania without choosing between a city stay and a resort stay.

The property seems designed to sit somewhere in the middle, close enough to the Old Town but still offering the amenities of a proper resort.
