Memorial Day Weekend Review: Wynn Las Vegas

Takeoff To Travel
Wynn

Background:

For a Memorial Day weekend getaway, I stayed at Bellagio for one night and then moved over to the Wynn for two nights after. During Christmas of 2022, I had a great stay in one of the newly renovated rooms at the Wynn. I had never stayed at the Bellagio before and was excited to compare it to the Wynn. After staying at both, I believe Wynn is the clear winner. If you’re interested, you can check out my Bellagio review here.

Wynn remains one of my favorite Las Vegas properties. and I feel that it definitely has a leg up over its competitors such as Aria and Venetian/Palazzo, due to the quality of the rooms, and the calmer atmosphere.

Takeoff Points:

Date of Stay: May 2023
Room Type: Wynn Resort Two Queens
Pros: Five-star bedding, nicely appointed renovated rooms, calmer than other Vegas mega-resorts
Cons: Housekeeping could have been a bit better, not a fan of soap/shampoo scent.

Booking:

I reserved my room at the Wynn with a two-night offer from my Ocean’s Resort Atlantic City Prime Rewards that I got when I status matched in Atlantic City. Originally, I had booked an April stay, but due to scheduling conflicts, I moved it to Memorial Day weekend. I was very thankful that my offer worked on the holiday weekend.

With my booking, I could stay at either Encore or Wynn. Previously, I would prefer the Encore as it is more boutique feeling with fewer crowds and has larger rooms. But, the Encore hasn’t been renovated yet, so I definitely wanted the Wynn’s newly renovated rooms.

Arrival + Check-In:

I took a Lyft from the Bellagio to the Wynn which cost about $9 for the 1.5-mile ride through the Strip. Vegas Lyft prices are quite reasonable currently.

After arriving, I passed the beautiful gardens on my way to the main lobby of the Wynn to check-in.

I was quickly helped by an associate, and despite arriving about an hour before the standard check-in time of 3 pm, they had a room for me which was appreciated. I was assigned a room on the 26th floor.

The front desk associate informed me that with this stay I got a $50 dining credit, and no resort fees (but could pay the resort fee if I wanted). Since I didn’t need Wi-Fi, or planned to access the gym, I didn’t opt in to the fee.

Headed to Room:

The elevators were always quite packed, especially for the lower floors like mine. I supposed it makes sense as it was Memorial Day weekend.

The Wynn standard rooms are a good size at a spacious 640 square feet.

The room featured two queen-sized beds, and the room overlooked the Wynn Golf Course. A large table with two chairs is featured in the center of the room, and there is a bench in front of one of the queen beds and a sofa in front of the other.

The Moon desk lamp at the table was a cute touch and felt quite futuristic.

On par with most Vegas resorts, coffee + tea makers are not provided, but they do have minibar items for purchase. Also, an Amazon Echo is provided in the room, and Alexa can open/close drapes, play music, and turn on/off the lighting, among other functions. Still, it seems the only thing it seems she cannot do is turn on/off the TV.

In terms of sleep quality, I found the beds to be quite comfortable and up to the five-star level. The sheets were of high quality, and the pillows were plush.

One thing to note is the location of your room. I believe we were right on top of the nightclub, so we could hear the bass and feel light vibrations, even being 26 floors up. I’m a light sleeper and it woke me up on the first night but I got used to it and it didn’t bug me too much the next night. If you’re a sensitive sleeper, I suggest requesting a room located on the other end of the hall, or on a higher floor.

Bathroom:

There are two separate sinks, a tub, a shower, and a separate W/C. I found the floating cabinets in between the sinks to be quite useful for extra counter space. On top of the normal shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, cotton swabs, shower caps, and shoe shine were provided. Also, two robes for use were provided in the bathroom. The only gripe I would add is that the Wynn-branded toiletry scent provided doesn’t smell particularly great and it feels a bit lower-end. On the positive side, the TP was really soft.

One note I’d make is that usually, Wynn is quite clean. However, I’m not sure if it was due to the long weekend, but the room could have been cleaned better. The shelves in the bathroom seemed to be quite dusty towards the back, and there were crumbs in the bedroom area on the floor. Not a dealbreaker, but definitely improvements could be made on this front. Still a lot better than the huge hair I found in my bed at the Bellagio

Dining:

I didn’t have the chance to eat at any of the on-site restaurants this trip, but on my last visit, I had a great dinner at the seafood focused restaurant, Lakeside. You can check my review of Lakeside here if you would like. Wynn and Encore have 20+ other dining options on-site, so you’ll be able to find something you like.

I did get pastries in the mornings from the 24/7 coffee shop, Caffe Al Teatro. The pastries were quite good (I liked the baklava and the ube sesame ones).

Amenities:

There are two casino floors, one at the Wynn and one at Encore. Both hotels are connected via shops. Wynn has a larger casino floor than Encore, but both are quite nice and calmer than other Strip hotels. The Shops at Wynn and Encore feature many high-end designer boutiques such as Hermes, and Louis Vuitton among many others.

There is a Spa + Fitness Center, but I did not visit them on this trip. You can see photos online here, and they look quite nice. There are pools at both Wynn and Encore and currently, they are open from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Self-parking at Wynn and Encore is complimentary, and as of my May 2023 stay, valet parking is $35/day Monday – Thursday; and, $40/day Friday – Sunday.

Location:

The Wynn is located on the North end of the Las Vegas Strip. It is connected by a pedestrian bridge to the Palazzo/Venetian as well as the Fashion Show Mall. Additionally, you can also walk across the street from Encore to the new Resorts World Las Vegas. I personally like the location as it’s easily accessible by car, and still walkable (or a quick Uber) to most places in the Center Strip.

The Verdict:

Overall, my Memorial Day weekend stay at the Wynn Las Vegas was solid. The Wynn continues to remain one of my favorite properties to stay in Las Vegas, and I will most likely be back very soon.
