Meal Pre-Order Functionality Back at AA.com

The ability for premium cabin customers to pre-order a meal has been a real differentiator for American Airlines in my mind. I liked knowing what was available and reserving a choice in advance when flying AA. This ability was temporarily removed during the transition into one reservations system for American and US Airways. In the meantime, we’ve been able to either call or work with the Twitter team to pre-order.

This morning, the full ability to pre-order has returned to AA.com. I took a look at my upcoming flight and saw this.

aa.com, pre order meal, aa meal preorder

The choice that I’d made via the Twitter team yesterday was already showing as reserved.

aa meal preorder, aa.com, pre order

It’s good to see this functionality to return to AA.com. The Twitter team worked out just fine for me, but I’m sure they’ve got better things to do than pre-order meals for me. 🙂 Again, I think this is a real differentiator for AA, and I’m a little surprised their domestic competitors haven’t tried something similar. I am happy it’s back. My thanks to the Travelingbetter team for the heads up.

  1. Well, that’s funny…have a flight tomorrow and hadn’t pre-selected *anything* as the funcationality wasn’t available and I didn’t use Twitter or call it in. However, American has taken it upon themselves to select Steel Cut Oatmeal with Berries and Brown Sugar for me. That’s not at all what I want. That’s kind of bullshit of them.

  2. Best I can tell this only appears for reservations where you’ve already made a selection.

I have a reservation where I made a selection via the ‘hack’ I wrote about, and the button now shows up on that reservation.

I also have a reservation where I have not made the selection yet (but is already upgraded and we are within the meal selection window) and the button does not show up.
