RCL Says Goodbye to Majesty of the Seas

Royal Caribbean International has announced that the line’s last Sovereign Class vessel, Majesty of the Seas will leave the fleet in 2016. The ship’s last cruise for RCL will depart April 29, 2016. Majesty will transfer to sister line Pullmantur which focuses on the Spanish cruise market. According to Royal Caribbean, “Majesty of the Seas was built at Chantiers de L’Atlantique (now STX France) in St. Nazaire, France and sailed its maiden voyage on April 26, 1992. The 74,077-ton ship carries 2,350 guests (double occupancy) and 912 crew. Most recently, Majesty of the Seas was sailing year-round three- and four-night cruises from Miami, often visiting Royal Caribbean’s private island of CocoCay, Bahamas. While Majesty of the Seas caters to all types of cruise passengers, she is known for her first-time cruisers, offering newcomers the opportunity to get a feel of the cruising experience. Following the transition, all three Sovereign class ships – Sovereign, Monarch, and Majesty – will be operated by Pullmantur Cruises.”

majesty of the seas, majesty of the seas retiring,

On a purely personal note, my first cruise was aboard Majesty of the Seas, and I’ve sailed on her many times since. She doesn’t have all the latest bells and whistles, but can always be relied upon for a great getaway with wonderful service. MrsMJ and I are booked on her final two cruises with Royal Caribbean which should make for a heck of a cruise review.

  1. Thoughts on what replaces majesty? Was happy to have seen enchantment replace monarch and am assuming one in that class replaces majesty.

    1. Jeremy,

I’m not sure. I assume it will be one of the Vision-Class vessels like Enchantment replacing Monarch in Port Canaveral. They are all updated now, so it will be a hard product improvement. I’m not certain anything larger is appropriate for the 3/4 night market, but I don’t profess to be a revenue management expert in cruises.

Supposedly, RCL did a drive-by of Key West with a Voyager Class vessel a while back to test the ins/outs of the port with a ship of that size so I suppose anything is possible.

  2. Majesty was my 4th ship, back in 2000. I wish the final sailing was the 4 day and not the 3 day. It’s hardly worth it for us to fly down for a 3 day cruise. I can see why you’d want the b2b. It’s been so long since I sailed her, I’d forgotten about the lack of balcony cabins, except for suites. Those JS prices for a 3 day are high, but I’m betting they’ll only get higher. I am very tempted to do that last sailing though!

    1. We did the last Monarch 3 nighter. Had such a great time we had to do this one. Learned on that one that the last cruise festivities really began on the 4 nighter before.

  3. I’ll see you at the diamond happy hour.
I just called my TA to book the farewell cruise. My wife and I had our first RCCL cruise many years ago on the majesty and so did my oldest daughter had her first cruise on the Majesty. Good memories. Great ship and crew, sad to see her go.
