My Favorite Travel Gift Ever: Magnetic-Pin World Travel Map

A couple years ago my wife gave me one of the most awesome travel-related gifts I’ve ever received: a magnetic-pin world travel map. We’d traveled abroad a couple times, and I was starting to track countries, states, provinces, etc. that we’d visited. Granted, my numbers are still low compared to many avid international travelers, but I was beginning to “country count”.

I’d thought about getting one of the scratch-off maps, but the need to painstakingly uncover countries and states as you visit seemed a bit too annoying. I’d already started tracking countries via Most Traveled People, and that seemed like it would be good enough.

But no. On Christmas morning I opened up a wonderful gift, a large magnetic-pin world travel map. It is both stylish and provides a great way for me to track my travels. It might just be a fantastic gift for the avid traveler in your life (or a gift idea for you for your friends and family)!

Where to Buy The Magnetic-Pin World Travel Map

There’s currently a Groupon deal for the Home Magnetics magnetic-pin world travel map where you can get this for just $39.99. The retail price is ~$100, so this is a significant discount. It’s on sale for just another few hours. It’s often available for $55.99, which still isn’t bad.

The map comes with a starter set of pins. The original set had about twenty red, nine or so blue, and one yellow. I settled on using red for places visited, blue for the best of my many bucket-list destinations, and yellow for home.

I ended up ordering a second starter set of pins, as I liked the balance of how many of each you were given, and we added a second yellow on Costa Rica, the original home of our three adopted kids.

The map has two toothed hangers to hang on nails or screws. We had it hung for a couple years in our previous home, and never worried about it falling (still need to get it up in our new place). The bigger worry was objects colliding with it and scattering the pins (thank you, children).

If you just want to track your domestic travel, there is a United States version as well. There are two sizes for each: standard and large. The large size is $59.99. Both versions and sizes are on sale through the end of today!

Conclusion

I don’t like to set products in front of anyone unless it is something I really like or think is totally worth the money. I’ve only ever used a handful of affiliate links, and all have been independent of anyone sponsoring the product or me receiving it for free.

In the case of the Home Magnetics magnetic-pin world travel map, it is one of my favorite gifts I’ve ever received. I really like that you don’t have to scratch off the destinations or create pin holes that wear the map out. If you do buy it, I hope you or a loved one enjoys it as much as I have!
