Quick Details
Hotel:
The Renaissance Paris Republique (A Marriott Hotel)
Location: Paris, France
Arrived: Wednesday, May 11
Departed:
Saturday, May 14
Room Number:
310
Paid:
120,000 Marriott points for the stay, 40,000 per night

After we used up all of my fiance’s Marriott points in London, we decided to use up all my Marriott points in Paris. I rarely stay at Marriott hotels anymore it seems, so I felt it was time to start burning up our Marriott points.

We chose this hotel for its location and because it was within our point budget. Also, it was a huge bonus that this hotel just opened up in April 2016, so we got to experience a brand new hotel. As it turned out, this hotel is located right down the street from a ton of restaurants and cafes. So I couldn’t be happier with the location.

It’s a tough hotel to find at first since it doesn’t stick out and instead kind of blends into the buildings around it. When you finally get to the front of it you only see a giant red entrance with the word “Renaissance” on it.

The check in process was very good. It was fast and simple and also the check in agent rode the elevator with us to explain more about the hotel, show how the key worked on the door (it was a simple touch the card to the door lock) and answered any questions we had. The one downside of this hotel that she did address right away, was that their internet wasn’t working all the time. She mentioned we may not be able to get it in our room, but may be able to get it in the lobby.

The Room

WOW. I am shocked by this room. It was HUGE. It was stylish, it was clean, it was comfortable, it was perfect. I loved this room and when I go back to Paris, I would love to stay in this hotel again. Instead of explaining the room, I am just going to let the pictures do the talking:

The mini bar area wasn’t bad. Lots of different options and the most important thing, an espresso machine!

Just so readers know, I come into any hotel expecting the worst. However, I have to say this room was probably one of my favorite regular, non suite rooms I have ever been in.

The Bad

Now, as much as I would love to praise this place non-stop, there were two huge negatives. First, was the WiFi. It only worked one night while we were there. Fortunately, when we went to check-in to our flight, we were able to use the WiFi in the lobby. It wasn’t the worst thing ever to not have WiFi but it’s just something you come to expect nowadays.

Second, I think the AC worked. I think. The AC control panel worked, and it let me change settings and it eventually got colder in the room, but I never heard it kick on and I could never feel it coming out of the vents. So I don’t know if it was user error, or it’s just a super low powered AC unit, but if you want to cool off your room quickly, you’re not going to, at least not in that room.

Bottom Line

For the point price and the location, especially if you like to be in an area with a lot of cafes and food options, this is unbeatable. You do have to take the metro to get to the touristy sites, but the metro station is a 2 minute walk from the hotel. Hopefully they fix their WiFi problems and you have better luck with the AC, but I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
