The Fresno Bee (where I used to be a reporter) tells us that Fresno’s Yosemite International Airport is losing service to Denver – again. Frontier Airlines confirmed to the Bee that it’s pulling out of Fresno just after the holidays on Jan. 5, 2015.
As airlines change their business models and adapt to new regulations, expect to see stories like this multiply in smaller stories across the USA over the next few years.
The news for Fresno’s airport, however, sounds especially disappointing because it’s been having a record year for passenger travel, the article says. Citing federal figures, the Bee reports that “more than 306,000 people boarded domestic airline flights in Fresno” the first half of this year – 18% more vs. the same period in 2010.

Frontier first left Fresno in 2007, after a two-year stint flying in and out of the San Joaquin Valley, the article says. The airline will give full refunds to people who already purchased tickets on the flights.
American Airlines nonstop service to Dallas-Fort Worth was the most popular at the airport during the first half of the year, according to the Bee. Frontier’s service was the least popular, but it also wasn’t daily, the story says.
