Nick never said that Hilton was smart doing this – the way I read it if anything he said the opposite. He did say that he understood the hypothetical logic but that’s not really the same thing. I do think it’s an exceedingly poor decision by Hilton, as Nick stated much more eloquently than me. I’m really torn on whether to get *A gold through Singapore. I already transferred half the necessary amount when American Express was offering the 15% bonus so that makes it easier. I see that in the conclusion. I think the case he makes for business travel after the heading “Increased flexibility = decreased cost and increased profit” is pretty compelling, though. Might be a smart choice, might not. I have considered the *A option, but probably shouldn’t. I’m a bit shy of 500k MR, and will likely earn more this year, but I’m not sure it’s worth using that many points for it, even as often as I fly United.
