I’m heading abroad next week and instead of my usual airline, I will be flying with KLM. As I have no frequent flyer privileges with them, I have had to go and purchase fast-track security at Dublin Airport.
My flight is leaving very early in the morning. To maximise sleep, I am arriving at the airport an hour before departure. Since that is only half an hour or so until boarding, fast-track is required, especially as it’s a bank holiday weekend.
They Want How Much For Fast-Track Security?!
I’ve purchased this product from Dublin Airport in the past. Usually the price is €5.99 to €7.99, which I think is about where it should be. Essentially I am happy to pay that much without really worrying too much about it.
Imagine my surprise when I went to book and the price popped up at €12.99. For context, that price is 51c less than the return bus trip I’ll be taking, which is 40 minutes each way. €12.99!!! Highway robbery.
The good thing about it is that in Dublin, Fast-Track is usually fast and you’re pretty much straight through. I wish I could say the same for other airports (I’m looking at you, London Heathrow!).
Overall Thoughts
Is €12.99 too much for fast-track security at Dublin Airport? Yes. Will people pay it? That’s also a yes. People who were lucky enough to retain their employment over the past 18 months should have spare cash to splash on this kind of fee.
What do you think of this price? Have you seen it higher anywhere else? Thank you for reading and if you have any comments or questions, please leave them below.

Fast track in Dublin is good because it always only takes a few minutes. The biggest problem is that you don’t know what the wait time through normal security is when booking it. I have got it on a few occasions when the main security line has no queue!
You’re not wrong there! I tend not to look, as I’ve had exactly this happen before… and then it’s just a total waste of cash. Shame you can’t elect to not use it and flip it to another date, but they have to make their money somehow!
I’ve never paid for that as in the US we have no way to buy it without purchasing Pre-Check which I don’t travel enough to make it worthwhile. Having said that, Southwest has Earlybird Checkin which used to cost $12.50 each segment and now ranges from $15-20 each segment. It just means you get a higher boarding number giving you an early pick of seats as they have open boarding and the higher the number the better your choice of seats. I get it, costs go up and I still pay for the early boarding as me without a window… Read more »
I completely agree with you on the window seat situation. The only time I ever fly in an aisle seat is in economy on long-haul flights, so I can get up and down as I please, without disturbing anyone. That $15-$20 is about what people pay to select seats on other airlines really, so in essence it’s a seating fee. Interesting one! I totally understand all fees go up, I was just very surprised at this one.
Is this really worth a post?
Judging by the amount of people that have read it, that would be a yes. Thanks for the comment!
I love backhanded “compliments”!
