AAdvantageGeek has an interesting photo on his blog of a new 777-300 getting prepped for delivery to American Airlines in several weeks. It is not yet in American’s timeless (and reportedly on its way out) polished silver and red, white, and blue color scheme. Its tail section is covered in white and the main fuselage appears to be grey. There is some speculation across the interweb that this is a sure sign that this airframe will be delivered in a new color scheme. I’m not so sure. I expect this is protective coating used to preserve the aircraft’s polished skin. Of course, it could be the “primer” for some new scheme. Who knows? No matter what, it’s nice to see a new widebody on the way to American.

I believe Tom Horton hinted at the possibility awhile back. Wouldn’t be surprised.
