Chicago Seminars – Any Particular Cruising Topics You Have in Mind?

As you may know, I am presenting at this fall’s Chicago Seminars. The session is titled “The Cruising Crowd with Marshall Jackson.” That’s a pretty good session title and I’m looking forward to meeting those of you who will be attending. I have some ideas about what I want to say, and I’m leaning towards calling my presentation “Vacation 101: Frequent Floating for the Frequent Flier.” Looking forward to talking about the basics of cruising, the do’s and don’ts, and giving a little 411 on life as a cruiser. I’ll be taking questions during the presentation, and will answer anything, but I thought I’d post this. Is there anything specific that those of you who will be participating in the session want to talk about? Let me know, and I will ensure that I include something in my presentation.

Can’t wait to meet everyone at the 2012 Chicago Seminars whether you are attending my session or not!!!

  1. Sort of late to be responding to Carol, but here goes:

I booked and paid for a cruise in November through the United Cruises portal, paid immediately (with my Chase United Visa), and am still waiting for the miles promised:

”Card Member: +2 award miles per $1
Card Member Balcony & Suite:+2 award miles per $1″

We took a suite too… United has provision for claiming miles from hotel & transportation partners with the exception of its own cruise portal.

The time spent trying to get the miles credited is worth more than the value of the miles. I suspect they know this.

  2. Id like to know if there is any rhyme or reason to getting an upgrade? Suggested hotels pre or post cruise. Also, which line has the best perks for frequent cruiser? Like, you, I am a frequent cruiser and would love to know the best place to get miles/points as well as OBC.

    Jane
headed to Sydney for our HAL cruise Sydney to Auckland on 2/6

  3. Paying for cruise with points. Thank You Points, Ultimate Reward Points ect..
Also can points be used to pay for Shore Excursions?

  4. Buy stock in the parent company (ie RCL for Celeb and Royal Carib), for shreholder shipboard credits. Pays dividends and, if you take multiple cruises a year, you can reap big returns.

  5. I’d like to hear a little about sightseeing tours presented by the cruise lines vs arranging our own shore excursions. Also the best way to save money while ON the cruise.

  6. I would like to know what your views of the United Cruise site are; particularly their current offer of points for booking a cruise through them. Worth it or not?

    thanks,

    Karen
